Home Page

Overview

The main role of this page template is to shortcut the user to meaningful content or section pages that are of benefit to the user.

The home template behaves much like a section template does with one key difference, there is no Hero Panel web part on the template.
Instead the page uses a Hero Button Panel widget that must always be at the top of the Widget zone's stack of widgets.

The Home page must be used with a Watercare.Home page type. This is to ensure that certain properties and page type scopes are controlled.
This also means that the Home page type cannot have child pages nested under it - this is by design.  Allowing nested/child pages under the Home node would have a negative impact on site navigation.

Some examples of unstructured content which is best suited to the home page are:
  • Shortcut links
  • Repeaters
  • Jumbotrons
  • Accordions
Core page content copy should not be used on the home page as a Home page is meant to be a quick stop for the user who will then be moved onto pages that present more detail.

Home Page Components

  1. Hero button panel (directly configurable: default widget for this page type)

Fields that make up the button panel can be edited in the widget for this page. Please note that the Hero button panel is a widget, not a web part so it will be inside the Widget Zone. Refer to the Hero Button Panel training page for more information on configuring this widget.
  2. Widget Zone

Allows the content editor to place all kinds of unstructured content displays.
