What’s happening?
We are planning to install a new pipeline from Auckland’s western water sources in the Waitakere Ranges to west Auckland, North Shore and Rodney.
At the moment we have one pipe (North Harbour No.1) that carries water from Titirangi to the North Shore, Whangaparaoa and Orewa. It was built between 1975 and 1985 and can be difficult to repair without disrupting water supplies.
This project is part of our wider Western Water Supply Strategy.
What are the benefits?
The new pipe will supply enough water to meet long-term demands in the western and northern parts of Auckland, ensuring security of supply.
We can repair the old pipe without affecting the water supply.
How will this work affect you?
Much of the work will be on the roads, and along or next to State Highway 18.
There might be a few traffic delays when construction is underway. If we need to do any work in your property we will have already sent you a letter to let you know.
Construction stages
We plan to begin work from around 2018, and will continue in stages until 2026.
We already have resource consents for a small section of pipe that runs next to SH18 and under the Greenhithe Bridge. This section will be built first, as the original pipe needs repairing.
