East Coast Bays wastewater upgrade

We are installing a wastewater pipe that will run from Scorpio Place to Rosedale Wastewater Treatment Plant, to improve Auckland's wastewater services.
Start–finish: TBC
Location: Rosedale
Status: Design

What’s happening?

As part of our plan to improve Auckland’s wastewater services, we are preparing to install a wastewater pipe that will run from Scorpio Place to Rosedale Waste Water Treatment Works.

The pipeline will be 800 millimetres in diameter and the trench will be about 1.5 metres wide.

The first stage will be to install a new pipeline from Scorpio Place down Landsberg Way and Centorian Drive, through the commercial area next to Apollo Drive. It will then enter farmland next to Ascension Place.

Why is this work needed?

The existing wastewater pipe is nearing the end of its useful life. It runs under properties and is not able to cope with the flow during heavy or prolonged rain.

What are the benefits?

  • Fewer wastewater overflows to Mairangi Bay beach
  • Capacity to meet expected future demand
  • Prevent pipe breaks on private property

How will it affect you?

The installation of pipelines is a major operation, and we will aim to keep disruption to a minimum.

To lay the pipe our contractors need a working strip for their vehicles, plant and equipment.  The working area will be secured until we have reinstated the ground.

Protecting the local environment is of crucial importance to us. We will consult with the appropriate agencies to minimise the impact on the environment.
