Waikato River water
The Waikato River is the longest in New Zealand, running 425 kilometres from Mt Ruapehu to the Tasman Sea at Port Waikato.
Supplying water to Auckland
Since 2002, the Waikato River has been part of Auckland’s water supply network, providing an average of 37,000 cubic metres of water to the region each day.
The river meets between 8 and 15 per cent of the area's annual needs, depending on weather conditions and dam levels.
We currently have resource consent to take up to 150,000 cubic metres per day from the river.
