What is the difference between stormwater and wastewater?

Stormwater is rainwater. It flows from roofs, downpipes and other drains into the public stormwater network, and then into streams and the sea. Wastewater (also known as sewage) is the used water from the shower, toilet, kitchen, etc. or from industry processes. It is carried by private drains to the wastewater network, and then to treatment plants.

Who manages stormwater?

Auckland Council manages stormwater. Watercare manages wastewater.
